Nothing says Christmas to me like making mass amounts of candy where one bite is equivalent to the normal daily caloric intake for one woman. That being said, I have to admit that I have never actually made mass amounts of Christmas candy without being under the watchful eye of my mother. I think that this is mostly because I've lived in Japan for so much of my pretend-adult life, that I couldn't find the right ingredients. However, since I am now a full-fledged American, this afternoon I got a wild hair and decided to make mom's carmel and Aunt Chris' famous bon bons.
While the bon bons don't look very good, I'm here to tell you that they are the real McCoy, AKA DELICIOUS. The carmel, on the other hand, is HARD AS A ROCK. We're talking SO hard that I have no idea how on earth I'm going to get it out of the pan. Here I thought I was doing such a good job - my mom NEVER used a candy thermometer, so I thought that I didn't need one either. Turns out that I was wrong. I guess the only thing I can do now is start licking the top and maybe in fifteen years or so, I will get to the bottom.
And in other Christmas news, I'm sad to say that I am having a hard time making Husband wait until Christmas to open his Christmas presents. He keeps asking if he can open just one and I keep saying yes. I'm so excited for him to open them that I cannot practice self-control and tell him no. It makes me want to run right out and buy more, more, more. I've never seen him this excited before. Maybe if he asks again, I can start throwing pieces of carmel at him...that is if I can ever cut it up...

The book signing is this coming Saturday - December 22 - from 12-2pm. It might just be you and me, however, as I don't really know anyone else.
