Because my goal is to run 10 minute miles.
I totally thought that's about how fast I was going.
Giving it all I had, my first mile was just over 11 minutes.
And by "just over", I mean 30 seconds over.
So, like halfway to a 12 minute mile.
I was pretty disappointed.
At least until I completed my second mile, which was just over 12 minutes (ok, fine. 12:35).
And with that, my slow first mile kicked my even-slower-second-mile's boooo-tay.
Have I ever told you that my dad participated in a 13.1 mile race every year?
The last 4.5 miles of it was straight uphill.
He walked it.
At a faster pace than I ran my second mile.
The good news for today is that it was cold enough to wear my vest.
The one that actually has a designated iPod pocket that I've totally never used before.
And that means hands free running!

They must be running army helicopter training drills right by the track.
When I got there, there were four helicopters parked in the middle of a field about 400 yards away.
When I was finished with my run, they were just taking off.
Maybe tomorrow if I go faster, I can watch them do their system checks.
I kind of like helicopters.
Did you know I rode in one once in Hawaii?
I did.
I was sitting by an 80-year-old woman who had to hand me a barf bag halfway through the ride.
I didn't have to use it, but just her handing it to me was bad enough.
