25 Minutes to Save the World

After all the whining and crying I did yesterday about the C25K program and having to run for 25 mintues straight, I drug myself out to the track this morning to do it anyway.

Mostly because The Judy encouraged me to do so on the phone last night.

I warned Husband before I left that if I was gone longer than an hour, he should come looking for me because I'd obviously be lying somewhere in the grass with a burst heart or collapsed lungs.

The run was even harder than I thought it would be.

Mostly because it's like seven hundred and ninety three degrees outside.

After ten minutes, I had to walk for a minute.

After seven more minutes, I had to walk for 90 seconds.

And, after five more minutes, another 90 second walk.

So I really only ended up running for like 22 minutes total and not even in a row.

Maybe I'll do better tomorrow.

The good thing is that the people out at the track are super friendly:

1. The old guy who's retired and claims he has "piss all to do" high fived me when I passed him.

2. The other old guy who rides a really old bike and always wears a Longhorn hat and a Rick Johnson special flannel shirt keeps a close eye on me.

He thinks I'll die before he does.

3. Then there's the Filipino Manny Pacquiao who runs backwards and sideways faster than I run forward.

He's just a bloody show off.

4.  The mother of a University of Utah football player.  Yeah.  Who would have thought I'd ever run into one of those down here?

5.  And The Girl Who Looks Good.  I'm pretty sure she has bigger delts than Dwight Howard.

You can do it! Just keep plugging along. I was in decent shape when I finally started running again and it hurt for months. Eventually your lungs will catch up... REmember it takes about 21 days for your muscles to replace themselves- there is truth to that 6 weeks and it gets easier mantra. But if you are out of shape? Usually it is like 4 muscle growing cycles... so 12-ish weeks. That is when you start to see the dramatic weight loss in people who started exercise programs.

Thanks, girls!

Becky, I definitely qualify for the "really out of shape" group. I've never in my life been so sedintary for so long. I've been at it for about seven weeks now and was thinking, "Shouldn't this be getting easier?!" I can do it for five more weeks!
