Hell Hath No Fury...

1.  Hell hath no fury like a mother who gets no sleep.  I know, I know, I've said it like five times, but it really is time for Carolyn to learn how to sleep without a swaddle.  Last night I left one arm out of the swaddle in an effort to ease her out of it.  She was up literally every two hours on the half hour trying to crawl around her crib or pull up on the sides.  The first two times, I attempted to let her cry-it-out, but after 15 minutes and her escalating to a scream, I couldn't do it.  The third and fourth times, I just gave her a paci and she went back to sleep.  But guess who didn't get to go back to sleep?  The mother.  It took 30-45 minutes for me to fall back asleep every time.  Tonight, I've just decided to rip the band-aid off altogether, thinking that there's no way it can be any worse.  I guess we'll see if I'm right.  I'm almost dreading going to sleep - it really is like having a new born again.  A newborn who can move around.

2.  Today I did a "special event" with a chiropractic office at a local high school.  I think I did 20 chair massages.  I'm exhausted.  While I was at the high school, I was thrilled to hear them say The Pledge of Allegiance.  I thought that had been done away with and that made me really, really sad.  But, after the pledge, guess what else happened?!  They said the pledge to the Texas flag as well.  Everyone looked at me funny because I didn't know it - and because I was looking at them funny because who really says a pledge to their state flag?  I'm going to learn the Nevada state pledge immediately.

3.  Just for the record, I still think chiropractors are somewhat of a crock, but they were paying $17/hour and that trumps how I feel.

4.  That being said, I've still seriously considered acupuncture for tendinitis.  I'm already starting to feel it after only a month of massaging full-time.  Physical therapy helped a little bit, the cortisone shots did nothing, and ignoring it is making it worse.

5.  Oh, and guess what else I found out about chiropractors today?  I found that they are allowed to train anyone in their office to do any part of their treatment plan.  There was one girl who's worked there for 2 years, who's never had any formal training, who is apparently "qualified" to do anything - adjustments, massage, and initial assessments.  Does that scare anyone else??  Not that she's not good at it, I'm just saying, I kind of want someone who's done the school time, the rotations, the shadowing...or whatever chiropractors do.

6.  I'm having a war with the Luvs company.  Ever since Carolyn has started flipping onto her stomach during naps and while sleeping at night, we've had at least one massively leaky diaper per day.  Sometimes two or three.  I may have to go back to Pampers, but I have a giant box of Luvs I still have to finish off first.  UGH.

7.  I wore a sunflower in my hair on Sunday and then again today.  Even if it looks stupid, the flower makes me happy.

8.  I was sucked into Lowe's yesterday.  I bought up all of my plants for this spring/summer.  Except cucumbers.  Those aren't out yet.  As soon as it stops being so humid outside, I'll plant.

9.  Husband's car wouldn't start today.  He was supposed to go on a tour of The Fed, but was unable to make it.  He'd been looking forward to it for over a month.

10.  Oh, one more thing about Carolyn and sleeping:  She's also decided that she doesn't need to take a nap in the morning.  We put her upstairs, she screams and naturally, tries to crawl around the crib.  If we bring her back down, she whines and rubs her eyes and whines some more.  She carries on like that until after her next meal and then will finally take a nap.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get her to resume her normal 2 nap schedule?

As for the leaky diaper, I use Huggies overnight diapers and have found they hold a TON of liquid. I know they start at size 3.
I know some people who put two diapers on in case of leak issues. I have only had issues with Huggies a handful of times, but that was because my son peed a ton in the time he was sleeping.

As for getting her to take two naps, I wish I could help you more. We found that putting music on for our son to sleep helped a ton. I do know that there would be days that he would play in his crib for an hour before going to
sleep.

I need to go to a kind of shady chiropractor who will do a full adjustment without an Xray and not charge me an arm and a leg.

Man, I wish you lived near me. I would be getting a massage weekly!

Oh man- getting rid of the swaddle! That will be good, once she gets used to it obviously. I hate the scream it out too but it seems to be the only thing that works. Blech.
ps- For the nap, try putting her down 30 min later. Lucy used to nap at 10 and 2 but gradually has moved to 10:30 and 2:30.

Girl..Huggies are the best once your baby is a little older. Like size 3 diapers and up. I use Huggies overnites and they can hold like a hold day's worth of pee! They're amazing!!

Eric, Britt, and Dan grew out of their morning nap by about 9-10 months. But there's that in-between stage for a while that's not fun. If I could make it through the morning they were so tired they would take awesome afternoon naps.

Luvs are cheaper, but we tried them and they were awful! I use Amazon mom diaper subscription and get 140 size 4 Huggies for $23-free 2 day shipping. Haven't had any leaks!
