The Harvest - Week Eleven

At this point, I'm really wishing tomatoes would ripen one at a time - or only as you need them.  I waited and waited for them to be ready and now they're coming so fast, I can't keep up.  I've already given away about half dozen, eaten another half dozen, have three sitting on my dryer, and four or five ready by tomorrow.  Tomatoes anyone?  Please submit an application that includes all your activities for the last ten years.  I don't give these babies up to just anyone.

Lol! I just emailed you and asked if you wanted tomatoes! We're in the same boat! I don't know what to do with them.

Umm...how many tomato plants do you have? Just wondering because I have six and, though I'm a few weeks behind you in the growth process due to a cool spring here in CA, I'm getting worried about the number of tomatoes that I may end up with. :)

I believe I shall make salsa. People would be more willing to take that off my hands than the tomatoes! I've been eying a recipe, but I'm scared to make it because what if it's gross??

Jenn, I have three plants but they are MASSIVE. I've seriously never seen tomato plants get this big. Apparently I gave them too much tomato crack (Miracle Gro).

You don't need a recipe for salsa. Just dump in whatever tastes good to you....and some vinegar. It's like soup. I wish I'd squished the seeds out of mine though before I made mine. It was still delicious, and you can seal it in canning jars with a water bath canner....simple simon. Then, you don't have to give it away, you can enjoy it until your next growing season. We're on our last jar from last fall. I need to make more this year.
