R.I.P GILL

Gill, The Fish passed away Friday.  Or, more accurately, he was murdered Friday.  By me.  But totally not on purpose.  According to the Internet, I was using water with too much chlorine for poor Gill.  He sunk to the bottom of the bowl Friday afternoon.  I thought he was just tired - swimming can really take it out of you.  Then, I started to clean the bowl and he floated upside down.  From what I understand, in regards to fish, that's never a good thing.  He was ceremoniously flushed to meet The Great Fish Spirit in the Sky.  Or the ocean.  Or whatever.

So now, we have:

LEONARD

Leonard is a high class, Petco Fish.  Not a Walmart fish like Gill was  The picture's not so great because Leonard doesn't like the paparazzi following him.

But, what I really wanted was this:

They had two little tabby kitties right by the front door at Petco.  I had to close my eyes while walking by so as not to get sucked in.  Plus, Husband was waiting out in the car and he would have made me take it right back in had I decided to make the purchase.  Plus, I apparently can't even take care of a fish so a cat is probably WAY out of my realm.

This is totally not related, but I also wanted to share this:

My very first layer cake.  Not the prettiest thing in the world, but get this:  the frosting tastes like peanut butter.  Uh-huh.  Peanut butter.

Fish don't have bodily functions (like throw up and poo and pee) that you as the adult of the house has to "deal" with -- so I vote for the fish from that perspective. However, kitties are awesome (unless they bring home ringworm to your children like one of ours did). And then they grow up and are snooty.

Sorry you didn't get a kitty--I know how much you love them. :) So, are you going to post the cake recipe or what?

Oh, poor Gill! I had a Beta fish at a job, many years ago, that somehow managed to live for like 2 years. No thanks to me, though. My coworkers kept him alive. I was a horrible mom.

We had Beta fish at our wedding and I brought one home. Somehow now I have 3, all from our wedding. Needless to say they are still alive 10 months later and I have become attached to them... more then my cat actually... Bob, Mr, and Titan... I don't know what the point in me telling you all this was except that I have 3 vases with Beta fish lol.

That cake looks delicious! And peanut butter frosting!! Yum! We know all about fish dying this week in our house, but we didn't get the fancy ones like you did...we went Walmart all the way. Rexburg doesn't have a PetCo..I know, shocking! Walmart has a 72 hour return policy on fish, but you have to bring the dead fish in, and I thought that might be too traumatizing for little Ava, so I let her think they went to the Ocean, just like Nemo.

did you live with me when i got a fish from somewhere and it didn't even live through the night? we got two kittens from lisi. i can't believe how low maintenance they are compared to a dog. of course, they are outside cats - that helps. i will have to put their pictures on my blog.

Lindsay - the only reason I had to go with the high class, PetCo fish was because they didn't have any at WalMart or Target. Since when have they stopped selling fish for cheap?!

Nancy - Oh, I want a kitty!!

I was also going to say, Nancy, that I did live with you and the fish who didn't make it through the night. I think we froze that fish to death.
