Thanksgiving Reflections

1. We went to Husband's sister's house for Thanksgiving dinner. There I was able to meet Uncle Freddy (who has been unable to attend family functions for the last little while due to the fact that he was in the state pen). Uncle Freddy is now quite possibly my very favorite relative - he has quite the fashion sense including a button down shirt with wild turkeys all over it. Nothing like a turkey shirt to celebrate the holiday in style.

2. Uncle Gerald hasn't changed since the last time I saw him - he's still obsessed with a trip to Hope, Arkansas where, one day, he is going to dig for diamonds (followed by a trip to Georgia where he will pan for gold) in good faith that he will come up with a six carat-er. Unless he was talking about the diamond dig (I only heard the plan four times), he wasn't talking at all. The good news is that I didn't have to discuss Cialis with Aunt Sharon.

3. I was held hostage in my home all day Black Friday by the crazy ones seeking deals. There was no way I was going anywhere. I can't handle that many people all in one place at one time.

4. I FINALLY found the Cadbury mini-eggs, thanks to Husband. I am now high on my Christmas candy - which they may as well re-name Christmas crack.

5. We went to watch Four Christmases last night. HI-LA-RIOUS.

6. I just made myself a full turkey dinner with a combination of Husband's delicious bacon turkey leftovers and a package of generic turkey flavored stuffing I've had for at least two years.

7. No matter how old I am or how many years I've been away, I miss my family so much on holidays. I miss them everyday, but holidays are like opening a wound and pouring salt on it. I have to avoid calling home on these days because I get jealous that everyone but me is there and I always feel like I'm missing all of the good stuff.

8. I believe I'm going to have to hire someone to do both my Christmas shopping and grocery shopping between now and when Christmas is over. Everyone gets crazy at this time of year.

9. Having time off from work really is no fun when you don't have anyone to spend it with. Husband had to work at 5:30 am on Friday and again today. I think Conn's has a goal to work him to death by Christmas. The only good thing is that there has been non-stop football on TV, which makes up for everything but the whole working to death thing.

10. I don't think that I will ever be able to get used to a Thanksgiving or a Christmas where you have to have the air conditioner running. I pulled out the Christmas decorations yesterday and by the time I had them up (and the house cleaned), I was covered in sweat. I had to sit in front of the fan for 15 minutes to recover. I'm still trying to decide if the giant bow I put on top of one of the trees is ugly or very becoming.

I totally want to see Four Christmases. Looks hilarious. Glad you liked it. Glad you had a fun Thanksgiving. I concur with the calling family thing. My dad always plays us the Bruce Springsteen version of "Santa Claus is coming to town" on Thanksgiving morning. They called and left me a message with that song blaring and it brought tears to my eyes. Crazy, eh?
