I have no idea who got to the TV in the waiting room first this morning but whoever it was is never allowed to touch the TV again.
I live right smack dab in the middle of the bible belt. As such we have about 900 evangelical TV programs. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, in fact some of them are quite entertaining.
The one that was switched on today is called "The 700 Club". I've seen it before and it's usually about giving money/aide to people in need. Today, however, the preacher decided to impart some wisdom regarding the current state of the union instead.
During his presentation, he MIGHT have happened to mention that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ. You read that right... the anti-Christ.
Unfortunately (in this case), we have a WIDE demographic when it comes to our patients - including a white couple who gave a VERY loud and fervent "AMEN!" right after the anti-Christ comment. They then proceeded to pray along with the TV preacher RIGHT IN THE WAITING ROOM, that the country will not be led into the depths of despair.
Naturally, this upset many of our other patients and got even worse when yet another white patient turned to our most outspoken black patient who just happens to borderline worship Barack and said, "If they elect that man, this country's going to hell."
Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap.
Luckily cooler heads prevailed and an actual fight was abated.
Looks like we're going to have to remove the TV from the waiting room until the election is over. Or use parental controls. Apparently no one is following my newly written office rule #2, KEEP ALL RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL OPINIONS TO YOURSELF.

Oh, man. That show is always on when I drop Ashlyn off at the day care part of the gym while I work out. I'm just waiting for the day when we end family prayer and she ends it with an emphatic "AMEN!" That, or when she starts singing "I have a friend in Jesus" with her arms raised above her head.
Don't you guys have a remote control for the TV? You should keep that right next to you at all times. Better yet, post a sign next to the TV that says it is bad for you to watch so much, so while you're waiting for the doc to see you, use our outside track to walk and we'll call you when it's your turn. :)
WOW!!!! I'm soooo happy that Daddy and I are coming to the afternoon appointment!!!!! Because ... all you needed this morning was for him to have been there!!!! He talks so negative all the time ... and it drives me crazy!!!
Anti-christ? oh my goodness!!!!
Oh, BTW, did you know the 700 Club thinks that the LDS Church is also anti-christ? They did a program a few years about it ...
Take that TV out of the waiting room ... nobody needs to be watching it anyways. Personally, I can tell you the thing gets on my last nerve. But ... i'm not a TV person. :)
See you soon!
if i were you, i might have appreciated seeing a little scuffle. it's not everyday we (well - most people) have something to fight about.
There is no way I am going to let the people here have a fight. Our office isn't in the best part of town and you never know when someone is going to pull a gun. While I don't care if some of those patients get shot (mean, but true), I am not going to subject myself to flying bullets.
And no, we don't have a remote control for the TV - it's a 13-inch TV that will be rendered useless in Febuary when all TVs have to be HD...or whatever. We already have a really classy wad of duck tape on one of the antenae.
