911

The Nurse just came running out of a patient room and told The Receptionist to call 911, we needed an ambulance right away. Judging from The Receptionist's answers, I believe this is how the phone call went:

Receptionist: This is The Receptionist at The Doctor's office. We need an ambulance right away.

Ambulance People: Ok, where?

Receptionist: (giving address) Please come now!

Ambulance People: What seems to be the problem?

Receptionist: I DON'T KNOW!

Ambulance People: You don't know?

Receptionist: NO! THE NURSE DIDN'T TELL ME!

Ambulance People: Seriously? You have no idea?

Receptionist: Ummm...well she has a really high fever.

Ambulance People: How old is the patient?

Receptionist: I don't know!

Ambulance People: Is this a joke?

The worst thing about this is that this is not the first time a phone call like this has happened. The Receptionist and I make calls like this a few times a day - to other doctor's offices, to the pharmacy, to the hospital. No one ever tells us what's going on, especially, it seems, in times of emergency or supposed emergency. It makes everyone think we are incompetent.

Oh, dear. Did the ambulance ever actually come? The nurse should have known to tell you guys what was going on. Evidently, she doesn't handle emergencies very well...:)
