Four Stars - SOOO Not My Style

As of this morning, Husband is working in Dallas until we can go home. Conn's is comping the hotel - the four star Omni Mandalay. It's is quite a step up from the sweet Extended Stay hotel from last hurricane. I hate to admit it, but four stars is not exactly my cup of tea. Here are the top ten reasons why:

1. I hauled in a bag full of paper plates, plastic cups, cereal, milk, and granola bars. And two of my own pillows. And a shopping bag full of my exercise clothes that wouldn't fit in my suitcase. I looked like a regular street bum.

2. The "flower child" t-shirt I bought to fit in with the hippies in Eureka Springs might as well be a giant neon sign on my chest that screams, "IMPOSTER".

3. My first instinct when the concierge walked toward us wanting to know if we needed help with our luggage was to run for it - like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

4. After doing the math, I figure I could stay in a NICE youth hostel in Thailand for 18 days for the one-night price here at the Omni.

5. The check-in man actually used airline stewardess hands to point out that the elevator is to the back and left.

6. The first phrase I uttered (ok, yelled) upon entering the room was, "HEY! THERE'S A PHONE BY THE TOILET!"

7. The $25 I usually spend for a pedicure down to Nails 'N More wouldn't even cover the tip at the in-house spa.

8. Room service - sounds good until you realize they are charging $11 for a bagel breakfast which includes a bagel (with cream cheese), orange juice, and coffee. That does not include the $2.50/ meal guest dining charge and the automatic 20% gratuity.

9. My suitcase full of shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops is a LITTLE out of place as is my shabby Columbia bum bag (from my mission) that I insist on using. Not exactly Louis Vuitton.

10. Along with the $11 bagel breakfast, they also offer $14/day parking, $6/bottle Evian water, and $10/can shoe polish. I'm scared to use the toilet paper for fear a charge will appear on my bill.

Country has come to town!

We stayed in a Westin once and the whole time I kept thinking I'd rather be in the Embassy Suites. Although, hey, you could always stalk all the celebrities that stay there. Who knows, maybe you'll see Jess and Tony!

Hi, Erin! :)

I'm so glad that you're able to blog now!

I understand the 4 star hotel situation ... last year my husband (who is a union officer for the brotherhood of locomotive engineers)and I went to Austin ... we stayed in a high rise 4 star hotel located right across from the Capital Building. Now ... listen, i'm about as country as country can ever be. And Chris ... he's right there beside me! Two pea's in a pod are we! LOL I mean we've got the look and the accent! True East Texans (piney wood living) born and breed! LOL Anyways ... when we drove up to door of the hotel, and the concierge came out to get our luggage ... i was sooooo embarrassed! I even told that sweet man he didn't need to help us ... we could do it. LOL But ... he helped us anyways!

Just a little side note ... I really didn't want to go to Austin for union stuff ... but I went ... because of the time I'd get to spend with Chris. Chris told me that sometimes they ask the wives to be on committee's ... my reply to him was "Well, I don't need to worry about getting in any group ... I'd just tell them I'm a republican!" LOL Couldn't you just see the gasp in the room if I said that to a group of democrats? LOL ... BTW I have a little sarcasm in my personality! :)

I'm glad you and Nick are doing well ... ya'll take care ... and have fun!
