Socially Japanese-ified

I'm socially Japanese-ified. In other words - socially retarded. Even though I've been home from Japan for more than a year, I'm having a really hard time kicking all of the bad social habits (according to American culture) that I picked up there.

First, I ALWAYS talk with my mouth full now. ALWAYS.

Second, I still have a hard time maintaining proper eye contact throughout a conversation. I find myself looking up over their head or off to the side. It makes me seems shifty and probably very wormy.

Third, I very rarely start a conversation with anyone. I stand off in the corner and wait for people to come to me, hoping and praying that they eventually will. Once they start talking, I have no problem continuing the conversation but starting one makes me pee-my-pants anxious.

All of this adds up to a less-than-desirable social situation. Sigh. I hope I'm not wrecked for life.

I can't imagine you as the wallflower kind! You seem so... go-get-em!

Btw, Erin. I think we need some more photos on your photo link. The last ones are from your wedding!

I used to be a go-getter, that's why this confuses me!

And I want to take pictures but right now, it's too hot to go outside at all. I end up with sweat running down my back in less than 30 seconds. However, Husband and I are going back to Nevada next weekend so there may be some fab photo ops there...
