I called in sick to work yesterday for the first time in my entire life (except in Japan where I was sure I was dying of pneumonia but that doesn't really count because Japan is kind of like living in a fantasy land and nothing you do there actually counts). I had a cruddy weekend wherein I WANTED to skip church but DIDN'T even though I felt like I was going to throw up.
Anyway, Husband urged me to call in and I resisted due to the fact that calling into MY work is not like calling in sick ANYWHERE ELSE.
This is how it went yesterday:
Me: I feel sick to my stomach so I'm not coming to work today.
Doctor: Are you pregnant?
Me: No.
Doctor: Did you take a pregnancy test?
Me: Yes. It's negative (and yes, I was lying in that because I NEVER got a pregnancy test).
Doctor: You know, those can test false negative for up to ten days. Have you missed your period?
Me: No.
Doctor: Do you have the trots?
Me: No.
Doctor: Well, you'll probably get it. If you want you can come down to the office and I'll check you out.
Me: (thinking to myself) What's the use of calling in sick if you have to go to the office to be "checked out"?
Doctor: If you don't want to come there is some stuff you should get at Walgreen's for a gastro-intestinal virus...
Whatever happened to "I hope you feel better, see you tomorrow!"
Today the doctor wants to draw blood on me to make sure that I'm not contagious. I'm never calling in sick again. It's just not worth it.

A couple of questions and/or comments:
1.) What is the "trots"?
2.) Calling in sick to a doctor's office is rather pointless, they are going to see you anyway.
3.) You may be pregnant...if so then congrats!
Let's get something straight RIGHT NOW. I AM NOT PREGNANT.
The trots means diarrhea.
And I have to call in sick to the doctor's office because that's where I WORK. And, I wasn't really sick enough to have to be seen by the doctor, just sick enough to feel like crap.
