Nuts and Bolts

The radio station called me Wednesday night and offered me the job there. I was SOOOO excited.

Well, I called them last Thursday to see what time I should be there on Monday (as one of the requirements for hiring me, they demanded that I be there on Monday, giving my office now 2 days of notice that I was quiting).

When I asked the lady, she said, "I haven't hired you yet, we're still interviewing."

I said, "Wait, you told me on Wednesday that you were offering me the job but had to talk to your boss to get authorization. I've already given notice at my job and they've hired someone else to take my place."

She said, "Well, we were going to hire you but my boss said that I probably shouldn't because you're overqualified and would probably only stay for a little while and then leave. So in other words, we're trying to find someone who will stay longer."

Then I said, "And you didn't call to tell me that?"

She said, "Well, I mean, you're still in the running, but I won't know until about 5 today. But, if you can guarantee me that you will stay here for at least a year and a half or two years, I'll hire you right now."

Anyway, I told her to let me know. Then, I started to think about it and decided that I don't want to work for her at all if she's going to #1 demand that I be able to start on Monday or not hire me, #2 go back on her word of offering me the job and then not call me to tell me that she had decided against it when I'd already resigned from my job, and #3 not expect me to keep looking for work that I really want to do that will pay me more. And, if she ended up NOT offering me the job, I had already told my boss here that I was leaving and he hired someone new. What that means is that I would be out of a job.

I talked to my boss...he said that he had already hired someone else (he hired the girl that worked here before me back) and that he couldn't go back on his word unless she said that he could.

So, anyway, here I was this morning with no offered job, and no where to go to work on Monday. I told the doctor's wife that, she marched right in there and told the doctor to call back the girl he hired and tell her that I was going to stay. He did, she said she understood the situation and was very nice about it.

I called the radio station and told them that even if they hired me, I wouldn't be coming. The lady acted like she didn't understand why. Hello! You totally screwed me over!
