The Cow Is On Fire

Ruby Valley favorite/semi-famous Charley Gardner stopped by the shop the other day for some farm implement parts and entertained us with the following story:

We had the cow in the chute and had put some of that Ivomec (a bovine de-wormer that is poured on the skin) on her back. Then, the cow wouldn't move so Kami took to her with the hot shot (a "stick" with a small electric charge that you use when the cows won't move). And WHOOOOSH (imagine Charley Gardner's wild hand movements), the entire back end of that cow was on fire. Tanice said, "Hey, Charley, the cow's on fire" and I said, "How could the cow be on fire?". Then, I walked around there and sure enough, there were flames coming off her back. I'll tell you Jared, I ruined my best old hat beating it out.

So,the moral of the story is: should it become necessary to use Ivomec AND a hot shot on the same cow, make sure you keep a bucket of water nearby to douse the flames that will inevitably result. And also, never hang out with the Gardners when they're working cows.
