Thrilled to My Toes

Have you ever done anything that absolutely thrilled you to your very toes?

And then you look around for someone to applaud and praise you but the only one that's there is your two-year-old?

So you make her drop her sippy cup and clap for you and throw her hands in the air while proclaiming, "Yay, mommy!  You did it!", while also having to forcefully confiscate a hammer and a pair of scissors from said hands?

No?

That's what happened over here today.

You all know about my sewing.

Since I learned how to make that one skirt pattern six weeks ago at a church activity, I've made about a billion of them in varying sizes and now Carolyn can wear a twirl skirt approximately every day for the next seventy-nine years.

I haven't ventured into a new pattern even once because I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do it by myself.

I's skeered.

But then, I thought to myself, "Oh, for the love!  Stop being so bloody ridiculous!"

And I bought a pattern off of Etsy.

And didn't even open the email for like two weeks because I was pretty sure it was like cheating on my twirl skirt pattern.

I sweated while I cut out all the pieces I'd need.

(Have I mentioned how much more enjoyable sewing is when you don't have to pin and cut pattern pieces?  Sewing by measurement is the way to go!)

And I sweated while I sewed them all together.

And I sweated when I decided I was just going to go ahead and make a few alterations to the pattern because I didn't want to have to hem anything or make button holes.

By the time I was done, I was nothing but a big, sweaty, mess who was so proud of herself, she basically didn't know how to handle all that emotion.

Look what I did (just as a warning, the dress needs a good ironing as I mussed it up pretty good when I was hammering on the eyelets, but I couldn't take ten minutes to iron when I was so excited)!
