I Know Me Better Than You Know Me

I'm pretty sick.

I've had a killer sore throat since Monday morning.

Now my ears hurt, too, along with all of my lymph nodes along both sides (lymph nodes can hurt, right?)

It's been a miserable couple of days - no sleep while having to take care of Carolyn, who doesn't appreciate me just lounging around lazily on the couch.

This morning I decided enough was enough and went to the convenient care.

First of all, I can't wait till I have insurance so I can go to a "real" doctor.

Second of all, convenient care is anything but convenient.

I arrived at 9, right as they were opening.

I was the second patient, right after an old lady who had a complaint about every, single thing the LVN told her - it never ceases to amaze me how people who have insurance don't know how their insurance works.

If it wouldn't have hurt my throat, I'm pretty sure I would have told her to stop her ridiculous fussing and sit the hell down.

I didn't get back into a room until after 9:45 and sat there until well after 10 listening to the NP talking to someone on the phone about her recent vacation.

When she got to me, I told her my symptoms and this was the conversation we had:

Her:  How long has your throat been sore?
Me:  Four days.
Her:  Well, it would help if you would stop smoking.
Me:  I don't smoke.
Her:  It says right here in the computer that you do.
Me:  Well, I don't.
Her:  Are you sure?
Me:  Yep.  Pretty sure.
Her:  But the computer says...
Me:  I've never had a cigarette in my life.
Her:  Oh.  Well.  That's good...
Me:  I'm pretty sure I have strep throat.
Her:  I think you have strep, but we need to run a strep test and that'll cost you an extra $20.
Me:  What if you just treat me as if I have strep?  I've had it a lot before and this is what it feels like.
Her:  Or, I could just treat you as if you have strep and you could spend the extra $20 on penicillin.
Me:  (in my head) That sounds like a winner.  So happy you're listening to me.

It sounds like a scene from a really awesome movie. "These aren't the droids you're looking for." "You could treat me for strep without the test." "I can treat you for strep without the test." hehehehe
Hope you feel better. If I had kids for Carolyn to play with I'd take her off your hands for a few hours so you could sleep.

Hope you feel better soon. Taking care of kids when you're sick is a bummer. I think we've set the record here of 11 consecutive days of diarrhea for Josh. Hope it ends soon.
