8/6/11

*The orthopaedic doctor stopped by today to draw more fluid off Husband's knee.
*Then, he loaded him up on cortisone.
*That should be the end of that.

*They changed the wound vac again.
*I missed it on purpose.
*The lady who did it told Husband that now he knows what a bikini wax feels like.
*I would have punched that lady.

*No surgeries scheduled for today.

*Husband's nurse today is a former truck driver.
*He talks like one, too.
*He said his diabetic brother is missing one of his toes and now gets a 10% discount on pedicures.

*The hospital dietitian came by to tell us what a diabetic diet consists of.
*She must work with a lot of children because after every sentence, she said, "Now, do you understand?"
*Of course we understand.  We're not that stupid.
*Mostly I just wanted to throw a fit and scream, "NO!  I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS!"

*We are now owners of a brand new windshield.
*Safelite is freakin' awesome.

*I felt like a complete failure as a parent after Carolyn's well-check yesterday.
*I was scolded because Carolyn apparently weighs too much yet doesn't eat enough and is greatly retarded in her verbal skills.  The nurse spent ten minutes trying to get Carolyn to wave bye-bye to her - something Carolyn has never done - and was upset at that lack of development as well.  First thing this morning, I said, "Carolyn, can you say bye-bye?" and she raised her hand, waved at me, went and got her shoes, and stood in front of the door.  Like a dog.
*For posterity sake, Carolyn is 30 1/4 inches and 24 lb. 9 oz.

Perhaps it's all hospital dietitians then Erin because when I had gestational diabetes with Riglee, my dietitian treated me like I was totally dumb. It was really annoying.

We are praying for Nick and hope for a quick and easy recovery.

P.S. The diabetic diet totally sucks - or at least mine did...

Erin! Hang in there! You are doing great and are a great mother. It sounds to me like you need a new doctor for your little girl. She is just fine and is not too fat. Jillian was 31.5 inches and weighed in at 28#. We are praying for you and Nick. Let us know if we can do anything.

Yeah, that doc is a quack. My little one that was one July 1 - her weight was the same as your little one and her height is 2 inches shorter (I am short). My doc said she would slim out a big and start leveling off with her weight now that she is walking really well. Carolyn is way taller and should have a much better percentile #...but I don't care what the percentile says...she eats well, sleeps well, and can run my iphone. Plus - mine won't wave bye either - so I just got her to blow kisses...works well!

Ack I just love when they start pulling that "your kid SHOULD be doing this and this and this and it's all your fault they aren't" business.

Every kid is different. Your daughter does not sound dumb at all. She knew exactly what you were asking of her when you asked her if she could say bye bye. Kids are so much smarter than we think...and they all develop so differently. Being on my third (and God help me FINAL) child, I have seen a huge difference in all of them for sure. My oldest talked non stop and was speaking in complete sentences by the time she was two. My second, who just turned two, can barely say anything that you could understand except for "door" and "uh oh". He's not dumb by any means though...that boy is always one step ahead of me. My third is just 5 months but he too is developing differently from his older two siblings...and it's all good trust me.

Glad to hear Nick is doing a little better. We are praying for him.

Seeing her Sunday at the house, Carolyn is doing just fine. And you are a great mom.

I agree with Heather. Kids are all different. My two boys looked like they could've been twins, at 5 years apart. They are NOTHING alike though!! You could have complete conversations with Lucas at two, but Russell still has his own language, and seems in no hurry to change that. I just took Russ in for his two year check up. My doctor told me to take him off of whole milk, because he's in the 70-75% for weight and height. He's 36" & 31.5 lbs. I told her it wouldn't happen. You are not a failure!! She will figure it all out when she is good and ready.
