Trip to the Hood

1.  I've been given a church responsibility.  Well, I guess you'd call it that.  I've been put in charge of the Mormon booth for a tasting for a local charity called "Some Other Place".  The Mormons make loaves and loaves of wheat bread and serve it with honey.

2.  Because of this, I had to go to a meeting at their community center.  It's right in the middle of the hood.  I was scared out of my mind to get out of the car because there were about fifteen men just sitting on the corner across the street.

3.  There are about 30-40 other churches involved in this tasting.  They kept saying things like, "We're trying to keep costs down because being frugal will help the work of the Lord."

4.  Naturally, I sat next to the one lady who had a comment for everything.  Just loud enough for those of us sitting next to her, she kept saying, "Oh, Lord, Amen.  Oh, wow, praise the Lord.  May the Lord be glorified."  Then, she would look at me as if expecting an amen or a hallelujah and I had nothing.

5.  I drove Husband's car to the meeting.  Every time I drive Husband's car, I can't help but lust after his air conditioner.  It's so powerful and gets cold so fast.  Unlike The Tank, which generally takes about 30 minutes to cool off.

6.  The main street going to the community center has just been redone.  They've smoothed out the pavement, put in sidewalks, and planted trees all the way from the hospital down to the University.  It is beautiful.  But, like I said, it leads straight through the hood, and therefore, past miles of derelict buildings.  It doesn't make sense to me - to put window dressing on crap.

7.  On the way home, there was this awesome guy behind me on a sweet crotch rocket motorcycle.  At a light, he shot past me and proceeded to flip off every car he passed for as long as I could see him.  Um.  I hope someone puts a crowbar through his spokes one day.

8.  Changing subjects, I think it's pretty safe to say that other than my herbs and tomatoes, my garden is a miserable failure.  I have all of these giant, lovely plants, but not one vegetable on any of them.  My zucchini and green peppers continue to rot on the vine even though I've done tons of research on what could be wrong with them and tried to fix it.

9.  Carolyn continues to try to walk.  She's been doing 2-3 steps at a time.  It's hysterical because her balance still isn't very good, but she can't wait for it to get good.  She's got places to go and things to tear apart.

10.  I called the doctor today about Carolyn's rash and the nurse said it's more than likely related to teething.  I don't understand how teething can cause a rash all over her body, but we're going to go with it and see if we can fix it with Vaseline and Lansinoh.  I'm giving it five days.  If it's not better then, I might be firing my doctor.

Could the rash be viral? My daughter gets a rash after being sick sometimes. She had hives once too--we think it was from a goose down pillow--environmental factors can cause rashes too. About feeding--our first pediatrician had us sooo worried about our daughter eating enough. We wound up switching after some other issues and the new pediatrician was like if she is growing and healthy overall don't worry about how much, just make sure its a good variety--so after that we didn't put nearly the amount of worry into it--and she is 4 now and just fine!
