On a Saturday

1.  I have a favorite cake down at Carraba's.  I have no idea what the Italian name for it is, but I'm pretty sure in English, it's called, "The Best Dessert on the Whole Damn Planet".  Husband looked up a recipe and made it for me today.  This is what it looks like:

It's delicious.

2.  This is day eight of the Shellac:

I really could not be more pleased.  It's still nice and shiny.  No chips, scratches, or flaking.  Now if only I'd gotten my cuticles done...

3.  I was reading something about how it's a good thing for a baby to have an item to comfort them starting during their ninth month (or so) when separation anxiety shows up.  My friend has this great, super soft blanket for her son and I thought Carolyn needed one, too.  This is the one I bought:

And, when I say I bought it for Carolyn, I actually mean I bought it for myself.  While Carolyn was crawling around doing her baby work this morning, I sat in one place and stroked the blanket.  I might have an obsession with soft things.  Oh, and also, become a fan of Bebe Bella Designs on Facebook and you'll never pay full price for anything on their website - they put out coupon codes a couple of times a month.  I got this blanket for 70% off the original price.

4.  We got a new door this week.  I'm pretty thrilled by it.  Carolyn was thrilled with the fact that the workmen obviously came to play with her.  Now if we could only get them to come back to paint the molding, that would really be something:

5.  This picture of Carolyn cracks me up:

As you can see, we always keep our baby matching and totally in style.  This is outfit number 3 for the day.  The others are now soaking in Oxiclean, attempting to remove the apple/cherry puke stains.

6.  I met an amazing lady today who works for a non-profit organization that encourages girls to birth and keep their babies instead of having abortions.  We spoke for over an hour.  Or, I should say, she spoke for over an hour.  She talked about how she believed that the ability to create life is a gift from God.  And how she thinks that Husband and I have already given baby the greatest gift in the world:  a strong marriage with mutual respect wherein we will teach her to respect herself.  This lady wasn't at all preachy, just honest, earnest, and informative.  I love it when conversations like this happen out of thin air.

7.  And, by chance, not 20 minutes after I spoke with that lady, I met a younger girl (maybe 19?) who is 15 weeks pregnant.  She decided against an abortion less than 2 weeks ago.  She doesn't know if she'll keep the baby or put it up for adoption.  It was all I could do not to shout, "Oh, please, if you put it up for adoption, please tell me!  I know so many people who would love to have your baby in their home!"

8.  Today was the opening session of General Conference.  For the last four years, I've watched it on the Internet.  Today, Husband hooked the laptop up to the TV somehow and streamed the Internet through the TV.  I have no idea how hard that is to do, but I think Husband is a bloody genius.

9.  I realized today that talking while giving massages gives me a headache.  Like a BIG headache.  Almost migraine-like.  I wonder why this is.  Because when I don't talk while giving a massage, the massage is almost as relaxing for me as it is for the person receiving it.

10.  We're watching the Final Four.  But really, I could care less who wins.  I'm kind of disappointed in the finalists this year.

What is the shelac? Is it called shelac? I need that, I live in Utah and I love your blog!

Shellac is a long wearing fingernail varnish. It's supposed to last 2-3 weeks. It goes on just like regular polish and then they put your hand in this little dryer in between each coat. It dries immediately. This is my first time to have it - as an experiment. It's not supoosed to ruin your nails, but I won't know whether that's true for another week or so! So far, I'm really, really pleased!

I can't believe you didn't share the name of the cake in English. Cuz I want one. My hubbie is a freakin' genius with the tech gadgets too. Everytime I struggle for an hour, he makes it work in under ten seconds. We sure are lucky ducks!
