Still a Hippie

1.  As you all know, I've been making my own baby wipes.  Last time I made them, I used grapeseed oil in place of coconut oil and lavender oil in place of tea tree oil.  I had to rectify that - I don't really like the smell of lavender.  I didn't get the right essential oil or the coconut oil last time because I'm scared of the health food store.  Not scared as in like scared, scared as in like, once you go in there, they won't let you leave.  When I went in there today, I got a fifteen minute lesson on the properties and history of coconut products in general with an emphasis on coconut oil.  The lady was extremely earnest, which I found strange because I was going to buy the coconut oil anyway - all I needed to know was where it was located so I didn't look all over the store for it.  She then followed me to the register to commend me for not putting baby oil on my baby as it's made from mineral oil, which is just a derivative of crude oil.  Um.  Ok.  Can I just buy my stuff and go home?

2.  The coconut oil might be the best thing I've ever bought in my entire life.  When I got home from the store, I opened it and made Husband smell it.  Then I smelled it.  Then, I opened it.  And smeared it all over my legs.  It smells so good, I almost want to lick myself.  I smell just like a pina colada.

3.  There was a car accident literally 20 yards from me today while I was on my walk.  The lady almost ran over me and Carolyn as she peeled out of her driveway and sped down a residential street.  She crossed the main road, going at least 50 miles per hour, rounded a corner, ran up on someone's lawn, and smashed into a power pole.  Before she hit the power pole all I could think was, "That lady's going to hit someone!"  She was going so fast when she hit the pole, it cracked in half and her car ran up over the top of it and almost rolled.  It was terrifying.  Had it been just me, I wouldn't have cared, but it could have just as easily been my stroller she hit - and then I would have had to choke her.

4.  I bought Carolyn some more baby food today.  I keep thinking about making my own, but have yet to do it.  Plus, who wants to make your own when they sell apple-cherry baby food?!  Doesn't that sound sooooo good?  Maybe I'll have a cup of it, too.

5.  Carolyn's newest thing is chewing on Husband's socks.  I have no idea why.

6.  Don't you just love the movie Tombstone?  I think it's one of Kurt Russell's best.  And don't even get me started on how funny Val Kilmer is.  Unfortunately, I saw a recent picture of Val Kilmer and he's really gone downhill.

7.  I wish I had a place to plant tulips.  I love tulips.  And I miss having them.  I love, love, love that the trees and bushes are flowering in southeast Texas.  I keep wanting to take pictures of them, but then I'd have to trespass on someone's property to do it.  Either that or knock on the door and ask if I can take pictures...and then I'd feel like an idiot.

8.  Does anyone want a bottle of Black Shatter OPI nail polish?  I just happen to have one.

9.  When I asked one of my Japanese friends what I can do to help them in the wake of the tsunami, her only answer was, "Please pray for us.  I know you believe in God.  Pray to him for us."  This is funny to me because when I taught English, I very rarely mentioned religion.  And whenever I did, they would all giggle when I said I went to church on Sunday and then inevitably, someone would say, "Why do you go to church on Sunday?  To pray?"

10. Today on Yahoo, I read this story about an English teacher in Japan - she was in the same program I was.  She's the first known American casualty of the tsunami.  She stayed behind to make sure all of the kids at her school were picked up by their parents before she left.  There's a special place in heaven for people like her.  I hope her family is comforted.
