Since I've been sick, my plan to start training for the Gusher 5K went straight down the toilet.
This morning I woke up feeling a little better, so I thought I'd drive out to the trail and just see if I could walk the distance.
But, as we all know, there is something fundamentally wrong with me wherein I can't just walk.
Literally.
Can't.
Because there's this voice in my head that calls me a weenie-wimp-wuss and makes fun of the size of my thighs.
Sick, I know, but true none-the-less.
So, I thought I'd, you know, just try to run maybe just a little bit.
And it was with this thought that I put my wobbly bits out there for all to see.
Here are some things learned/facts/quandaries from today's training session:
1. I bought some of those cottony-spandexy capri pants to run in. You know, those ones where I used to see women my size exercising in them and quickly think, "Oh, my word, they sooooo should not be wearing those in public." Yeah. Those pants.
2. Those pants may have been the best investment I've ever made. They decreased chub rub by approximately 93% and decreased short ride-up by 100%.
3. Two miles is at least four times farther than it used to be.
4. I know this because the every-other quarter mile I ran was at least one mile long. Maybe two.
5. The wind was blowing at least 80 miles per hour. Ok, so the weather man said only 22, but due to my vast knowledge of Physics, I know that velocity + weight + height + pushing a stroller with a 17 pound baby into the wind = 80 miles per hour.
6. Thirty extra pounds are as kind to knees and hip flexors as a sledgehammer would be.
7. The more fat you have to grab to quell those side-cramps, the more the cramps hurt.
8. I can't stand humidity. Even at 65 degrees, the air is so heavy, you can almost eat it.
9. "Running" is a completely relative term. At the beginning, I was pretty much making the Kenyans look bad. By the end, I could barely lift my legs high enough for a respectable shuffle.
10. I am sadly and grossly out of shape.
11. This is going to be harder than I thought.

Keep up the good work! I also just made some new work-out goals (schedule and everything!), so maybe we can motivate each other. :) And let yourself walk for cryin' out loud. You have to build a "base." Let's pretend that we have to meet at 6 am (but we don't have to really work out that early) at the Fieldhouse like we did back at the good ol' BYU. Well...you were always there. I struggled sometimes. I'm rambling now.
