Blog Stalkers Beware

I'm a little upset this morning.

Here's my confession:

I have this, um, habit, of looking at other people's blogs.

You know.  Throughout the day.

Sometimes repeatedly out of boredom.

But I never leave comments.

I'm incognito.  Which is just another word for awesome.

And even though some people call me a stalker, I like to think of myself as...well, definitely not a stalker.

Something less weird...with less stigma.  Like a blog researcher.  Or a blog looker-upper.  Or someone Ellen should pay to find funny blogs so she can feature them on her show (really, Ellen, give me a call and we'll set something up.  I happen to be available immediately and I have so much experience it's not even funny).

However, thanks to Blogger, it appears I will no longer be able to "blog research" anonymously (I can't spell anonymously...I think I have a brain block against it).  Because the geniuses there have gone ahead and added a "stats" button on the blog dashboard.

With a mere click, you can find who's looking at your blog, where they came from, the posts they're looking at, the time of day they're looking, etc.  Like really, really effective reverse stalking.

Now, I don't care if people know I look at their blogs.  What I do care about are those people who click on that stats button and find that I've looked at their blog ten times that day.

It totally happens - I'm at home alone all day and the Internet and TV are my only contact with the outside world.  Sometimes I click on the blogs without even thinking about it.  Or I use certain blogs to get to other blogs.

Don't tell me you don't do it, too, because that would make you a big, fat liar.

Ugh.

So embarrassing.

And also an invasion of my blog-looking-up privacy.

Thanks for outting me, Blogger.

I guess I should go ahead and out myself before you find me on your stats.

I hate to break it to you, but there have been statcounters for a long time now. Some people use Google Analytics, I use Statcounter. I have seen you all Edward Cullen like, peering into my blog window.

I've been using Statcounter for a couple of years...but I didn't know very many other people who used it, too. It made me feel safe in looking at blogs...and also kind of superior. Now anyone who can log into blogger can see me! Making information available to the masses is never a good thing...

I had no clue about the blogger stats! What's up with that??? I use google analytics to keep up with who looks at mine, but so cool that you can just look from your blog now!

I stalk your blog. It happens. I've come to grips with it.

I wouldn't have found your blog if I hadn't stalked! :)

I am with amy kay. I totally stock your blog. I may check it like 5 times a day, and if you haven't updated that day, I probably check it more. There, I said it. I stock your blog.

Ha ha... I JUST found your blog TODAY. I happen to be a frequent blog "reader"... my job is BORING. I use blogspot and my blog is like 5 blogs back... as in, I just started hitting "next blog" and reading through them all and found yours. I think I like you ;)... which means, I'll be checking in. Nice to meet you!

Erin, you always make me laugh! I check your blog A LOT! I consider myself a blog "visitor," of yours and many other blogs, but now I'm thinking, "Oh, great!"

Erin,

I read your blog a lot too, especially since I'm a follower. I like to know how my JET friends are keeping up in the world. Congrats on becoming a mother. I can't believe it!

Ok, confession. You don't know me. I have already admitted to my husband, mother, and best friend that I blog stalk you. I found you on Jodi Wagley's blog last week (we're 1st cousins, so its totally not weird-lol). I'm VERY embarassed to admit that I have now read EVERY ONE of your blog posts. How's that for weird? Once I started, I couldn't stop. It was like a favorite book I couldn't put down. Then when I realized that last Fri was your b-day, I was trying to figure out how to send you a b-day greeting and/or gift without seeming creepy. Well, now that I've outted myself, we're sure to be the best of friends, because, well, in my head, we already are. So, weirded out yet? Thank you for giving me the chance to come clean! I hope Carolyn starts taking it easier on you. One day, when my dreams come true, we'll meet for lunch at Tokyo--my very fav restaurant. You can check my refernces with Jodi. Your number one stalker, Sarah Pellerin

My first comment looks kind of/really creepy. I used to make fun of Emily for reading your blog so loyally, mostly because she doesn't really know you. Then she dared me to read it . . . yeah. I come here a lot.

Ah ha! Blog stalkers, UNITE! I love it!

Hi Erin.

Yes, I blogstalk your blog. Except I don't because I've previously let you know I read it. Because it's just so interesting! <3

Have a good day.

I give blog keepers demerits when I notice they have a tracker thingy that shows I've been there (for all the same reasons). So much for anonymous stalking...pooheads.
