It should come as a surprise to no one that I have a very nice, if somewhat large, uterus.
I may have mentioned it once or twice.
When I say "nice", I'm not talking about "we got to church early and therefore got a padded seat" nice, I'm talking about "La-Z-Boy in brown leather with a built in soft drink dispenser and massage panel" nice.
If you had something nice like that to sit in, you'd probably never want to leave.
I know I wouldn't.
Apparently The Lentil feels the same way about my uterus.
Because she's never coming out of there.
The Doctor checked me today and asked about contractions.
Um, I'm not having any contraction.
He said this is not a good thing, we want contractions.
Yeah, I know, there, killer!
He said the baby isn't dropping at all.
I know that, too. She's still all up in my ribs.
He said I'm not dilating either.
You don't say.
He explained that all of these things together generally mean real labor should begin any time.
Please excuse me for going back to the 80's, but, NO DUH, DOCTOR!
He sent me for an ultrasound to find that indeed, The Lentil is now head down. And already weighs close to eight pounds. Two more weeks will put her at nine.
I told him I'm not extra super concerned about when she comes because if she's born a week or so late, it would be better for me work-wise...the only problem is, we've bought The Judy's plane ticket for July 14th. Could I have been more stupid for that??
He acted like he didn't hear me and started throwing around the word "c-section" like it was nothing.
If this happens, we'll do a c-section. If this happens, we'll do a c-section. And if this happens, we'll definitely do a c-section.
Can we not talk about cutting up my body, please?
Sigh.
If only I didn't have such a nice uterus...

I didn't have any contractions until the night before my son was born. I can't remember any of the other stuff but I do remember that. I thought it was nice!
Good luck! I can't wait to read all about her birth. Wish I could be there. :)
I told my midwives that I hadn't been having any contractions, and she said that actually I was having one right then. Oh. Well, I stand corrected. Maybe you just aren't noticing them. And, I didn't dilate actually at all until they gave me pitocin. I think my water broke at 6 in the morning, and I was still at a 2 by 1 pm. It was better the second time, but I think I may have been at a 4 by 4 pm, after my water broke at 7 in the morning. Tell your doctor that you would like to avoid a c-section unless the baby's life is in danger, or yours is. Some docs are so c-section happy. Then they don't have to wait around. The body can do amazing things if you just let it do the work. My friend Katie had a 9+ lb. baby for her first w/o any medication....and she is not a big person. You can do it.
Yeah I was a zero for ever. Even on my 40 week checks for both babies, I was a zero! So depressing, but I am freaked about pitosin and C-sections, so luckily they came on their own, a week late. Oh well. Good Luck. I didn't know I was contracting either, it is hard to tell the first time.
My water broke. No contractions at all!. I was sitting in the triage as several ladies came in screaming, but no pain for me. I had to have pitosin to start contractions. I was only dialated to a 4 before deciding we HAD TO have a c-section. Turned out the umbilical cord was wrapped around his body twice and he couldn't get out. It wasn't fun, but my baby came out healthy. Small, but healthy. Avoid the c-section unless needed. If needed, life will be painful for awhile, but you will heal.
Can't wait to see your little girl! Everybody is different as far as feeling contractions, I had them and couldn't feel them until labor began. We ended up c- section because of cord issues and other stuff but most women do just fine even with an 8 or 9 pounder! You can do it- you are tough! Plus you'll have angels helping from the other side :)
Don't get a C-Section. No one should have to recover from a major surgery with a brand new, screaming newborn unless they HAVE to. You'll totally be fine. Carolyn is just a girl and she'll come along when she's good and ready.
I have never been dilated until right up until labor starts - days after my due date. I have been to the doctor the day before, and in one case, 4 hours before giving birth to be told that I am at a 0, and not effaced at all. Nature has it's way of making it happen when your body is ready. I told my midwife that unless my life or baby's life was in danger I would not consent to have a c-section. They worked with me, even when the baby would not drop and I had been in labor for a while. You will do great. Can't wait to hear the news!
