Week Four

All of the tomato plants have finally been staked - probably 3 weeks too late.  I'm hoping the flimsy circle stakes will do what they're supposed to, but I'm already beginning to have my doubts.

Too bad the eggplant won't be growing this week, because I really need some.  When I bought this plant, I was thinking it was a Chinese or Japanese eggplant plant - not so much.  I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do with American eggplant.

Even though my boss said he'd build me a trellis for this cucumber plant, he has yet to do it...and I think it's everlastingly too late.  It started to snake it's way across my patio on Thursday so I had to improvise.  I pounded some nails into the fence post and wrapped the tendrils around them. The plant doesn't seem to mind and is now leeching onto the nails all by it's onesies.

And I know I shouldn't be proud of this since it's kind of akin to having a pregnant teenager (the plant is still at least 30 days from maturity), but look at what one of my tomato plants came up with today:

I realize I'm probably going to have to cut these two little babies off so they don't suck the energy from the rest of the plant so early in the growing process, but I'm already tasting the tomato, cheese, and lemon pepper sandwiches and don't know if I can bring myself to do it.

I just saw a commercial for that hanging tomato plant thing. I think I might try it. I want some tomatoes!
