Japan Fest 2010

This past weekend was Japan Fest in Houston.  The following 6 posts are some of the pictures - I tried to break them up so you'd know what you were looking at - because I know you're so totally interested.   The entire set can be viewed here.

A special thanks to my sister-in-law, Stephanie, for not only attending with me, but driving me there (I might have an irrational fear of driving in Houston) and also refraining from strangling me when I suggested unavailable parking areas for approximately 30 minutes while she drove around in circles.

She was also a super good sport when I insisted we camp out in front of the performance stage for 2 hours (thereby catching the entire karaoke contest and the animae costume show...and going deaf in the process because good grief, the music was loud) so we could have a front row seat for the taiko drummers.  I'm kind of obsessed with taiko.  I tried to learn it once in Japan but the teacher told me I wielded the drum sticks like a baseball bat.

Here are just a few pictures to get you started:

While I was disappointed at the general offering of Japanese food, I got what I was after:  katsu curry.  I may or may not have moaned in delight while consuming this entire bowl which may or may not have lead to all the people surrounding me to vacate the premisis to get away from me.  I really couldn't help it.  It was SOOOOO good.

This is my very favorite picture of the entire day.  Check out the facial expressions on both of these ladies.  Taiko is serious business.
