Madame Greenthumb

Here is my pot garden for 2010.  Ok, so not pot as in pot.  Pot as in bucket.  I went to Lowe's on Saturday and lusted after an actual home - where I could plant my tomatoes in actual dirt.  Somewhere that I wouldn't have to buy another bucket and two gigantic bags of potting soil that I had to have the little Lowe's man heft onto my cart for me.

I couldn't help myself.  My purpose at Lowe's was to buy two tomato plants.  TWO.  I walked out with three.  Plus a cucumber plant.  And an eggplant plant (which may or may not make it - it's already looking kind of dead).  I also had a bell pepper plant and a yellow squash plant in my basket, but in an extreme exercise of self-control, I put them back.  You should be proud of me.  Really.

This is the beginning of my herb garden.  What I really, really want is a window box full of herbs - because I'm totally Martha Stewart and I want to pluck them throughout the year.  I think Martha Stewart plucks things rather than picking them.  After much research (read: approximately 20 minutes of standing in front of the herb section at Lowe's), I went with rosemary, oregano, thyme, and sage.  I was hoping for some basil but they didn't have any.  I don't really know what I'm going to do with any of these herbs, but the point is, I'll have some if I need them.

Erin! That's so crazy. Last Friday, I checked out a book on container gardening (a kid's book because I'm very elementary but oh well). Then, on Sunday, Kyle and I happened upon a neighbor that was throwing out a dozen large plastic pots, so I grabbed those too.

I'm wanting to do eggplant, tomatoes (hopefully grape or cherry), cucumbers, and maybe some herbs. I could REALLY use your help getting started. I have no clue.

Make a deal? You help me start containers and I'll totally help you on the registry? :)

You can even just sit in a chair and tell me what to do!

Oh, and by the way, I do have a house with dirt. But, I'm still going the container route. Too much bending over and weeding the other way.
