Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

I love the MSNBC travel photos of the week.  L-O-V-E.  I look at them weekly and dream.  Here's this week's winner:

DOES IT LOOK FAMILIAR??

It should.

I TOOK IT.

ME.

Now, I know that winning a weekly photo contest isn't really a big deal to anyone else, but I'm so thrilled I want to break out singing and for some reason, the song I want to sing is, The Hills are Alive (With the Sound of Music).  I mean, it's totally almost rendered me speechless.  Hey.  I said almost

Here's why I'm so excited:

1.  I submitted the photo last week and didn't think about it again.  So yesterday, when I received the call saying I'd won, it was like finding a Christmas present I'd bought for myself and then forgotten about.

2.  I didn't threaten, beg, or otherwise coerce anyone I know into voting for me. In fact, I didn't even tell anyone.  And no, contrary to Husband's suggestion, I didn't vote for myself.  Not even once.

3.  MSNBC is a nationally (internationally??) respected site...even though no one at my work seems to know anything about it.

4.  I actually won a photo contest.  I know, it's an amateur photo contest, but STILL.  As an aspiring budding photographer, it feels unbelievable.  And yes, I did say "aspiring budding".  That's because I'm still not good enough to be moved into just the "aspiring" category.  I'm also an aspiring budding guitar player, just so you know.  I have been for like 10 years.

5.  My photo (along with the story behind the photo) is being featured for the next few hours as the top story on the MSNBC travel website.  Of course, they did get some of the story wrong.  For instance, I've never been to Taiwan.  And I only taught English for two years in Iwate (the other year and a half were on Hokkaido for my mission).  And I'm not going to Ireland this May.  But look, Grainne, they talk about YOU!

6.  I never win anything!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to bask in the glory of my win....by opening the MSNBC page 952 times just so I can make sure it's real. And probably by going to the bathroom.  So I don't actually pee my pants in excitement.

But don't worry, I'll be back to talk about it.  Probably every day for the next 15 years.

I would love that picture Erin, it is absolutely beautiful. Spending two years in Okinawa Japan, your picture brought back many memories of the beautiful scenery that is sometimes too difficult to describe. Thank you for entering that contest and sharing the beauty of Japan with all of us.
