Saturday's Warrior

Husband and I were discussing Saturday's Warrior, the last Mormon stage play and consequently, the awesomest dvd I know of.  I used to watch that dvd over and over and wish I were Julie, with the big, blonde, permed, 80's hair.

At one point in the movie, Julie and he boyfriend are in heaven and promise that they'll find one another when they get to earth.  Magically, it turns out they do.  They sing a song about how they know each other from somewhere.  I was totally going to tape myself singing it but decided against it since I only know seven of the words.  The good news is you can download the theme song as your cell phone ring tone.

No, really, you can.

As Husband and I were talking I told him that that movie promulgated the erroneous myth that you promise someone in heaven that you'll find each other and therefore, the fact that there's only one person for everyone on the earth.  I was pretty fired up about it.

Husband was quiet.

Finally I said, "What do you think?"

He made me want to cry (which really isn't all that hard to do lately) when he replied, "Oh, I don't know, baby.  I think we knew each other in heaven.  And I think you were dear to me there just like you're dear to me here.  I think we were meant to be together."

Sigh.

Swoon.

Whata sweetie.

Oh I <3 Saturday's Warrior. Growing up, my mom was the sucker from the ward who bought the lds dvds from every traveling ex-missionary who showed up at our doorstep. I think we have a few copies of the VHS and a few of Mouth of Babes (another classic).

And, I too believe Kyle and I had a magical duet together in heave where we promised to be together forever. Because, lets face it, singing duets in heaven is totally romantic.

Saturdays Warrior video (shudder) it's just way too much '80s for my comfort. Unfortunately my husband is not of that romantic ilk. Sigh. And he completely doesn't believe the "doctrine" of Saturdays Warrior. But he is mine and I am his (I think that line is one of Julie's in SW), so I guess it is a moot point now. :)
