Spindletop was the first area in or around Beaumont that successfully produced oil. And, what a way to celebrate this event by attending a "tour" (meaning self-guided) of a commemorative, mock village constructed no where near the actual drilling site. It really was pretty cool - they had an entire town including a blacksmith shop, a drug store, a surveyors office, and a bar. It also included at least 700 signs reminding us to keep our grubby little hands off of everything, something The Judy was not always able to do...

Hmmm... I've never even been there. Would you reccommend it?
I wouldn't recommend it for little kids - you literally can't touch anything. It was hard enough for me not to touch. I can't imagine how a little kid would feel. But, for adults, if you're into history and how things looked in the early 1900's, it's pretty cool. It only takes about an hour to walk through.
