This afternoon, using Aunt Sandy's recipe (not my Aunt Sandy, my friend Heather's Aunt Sandy), I made my very first batch of cinnamon rolls! I know, I know, they're not pretty. Because I tried to smash all of them into one tiny pan to fit into my tiny oven (who knew that ovens came in tiny sizes), they kind of...threw up on themselves. The middle part of half of them exploded - I have outties instead of normal cinnamon rolls. The good news is that it doesn't affect the taste at all. DELICIOUS. The bad news is that it makes them very difficult to frost (along with the pecans in the frosting - they make everything bumpy). Then again, I guess the exploded middles increase the surface area which only means one thing: MORE FROSTING! Next time I will make them pretty, too. Thanks, Heather!

Oh my gosh. I'm DROOLING!
You have to give me a recipe.
And, thank you SO much for the root beer float on Friday. It made me cry! :)
Let's do something this week - for real, this time.
Bud gave you some critiques--put the actual pecans IN the rolls when you roll them up with the brown sugar and such, then when you frost them it isn't so hard.
My critique--NICE FREAKING JOB!!! Aunt Sandy would be proud. In fact, you should go to her blog and tell her all about it. I'm seriously extremely proud of you, Erin. I always knew you had an inner Martha Stewart ready to come out! I'm so proud of you!!!
Did you know that the fat content PER ROLL is only 3 grams? That's the bread only, so if you add stuff it's more, but STILL! Man, I love Aunt Sandy! (The bread numbers are really low per slice which is AWESOME since I love homemade bread.)
Here's the problem with putting the nuts in the rolls - I don't like them. I wasn't going to put in any at all but then remembered that Husband likes nuts. I compensated by putting them in the frosting. And guess what? Nuts are good when they're not cooked! I have an aversion to nuts because my mom put them in EVERYTHING growing up. She used to buy burlap sacks full of walnuts and sit on the kitchen floor cracking them with a hammer. I think she still does.
As far as the 3 grams of fat per serving, I think I wrecked that up with the cream cheese frosting and the nearly 3/4 stick of butter I used on the inside. I did, however, use Splenda instead of sugar - I am going to get minus fat points in Heaven for that, I just know it!
Erin, Thanks for the comment on my blog. I already left a comment on your other blog, but then saw this one. You are awesome! The rolls look great. I just want you to know that never, in all the years I have been using this recipe have I used it for anything but french bread! Very creative! I will have to try it. The cinnamon roll recipe that I use has WAY more calories in it than this one. Anyway, enjoy!!
Aunt Sandy (Heather's Aunt Sandy)
yummmmm! Those look good!
