Grateful to Be Young and Poor

The doctor, along with every other American, is very concerned about this $700 billion dollar financial bailout. He has commissioned both the receptionist and me to think of a better plan than the government currently has. He said he will pay for the phone call to our senators to tell them about our flash of brilliance that will bring our country out of financial darkness into the glorious light of financial stability.

Yes, it is safe to assume I have the answer.

The receptionist made what I consider to be a very wise statement when she said that for once she was grateful to be poor. I would like to add in there that I am grateful to be YOUNG (AKA not going to retire any time soon) and POOR.

I know there are a lot of ramifications to this financial crisis and what looks like consequent bailout that I can never pretend to understand. The good news for those of us who have no 401K, who have a piddly bank account, who have not yet been able to afford a house, who don't have a diversified stock portfolio is that we have A LOT LESS TO LOSE.

I know that sooner rather than later the specific effects will trickle down to my very low level, but until then, I'm pretty smug about my financial non-decisions of the past (which I didn't make because I had no idea what to do).

More good news is that I have already been inspired to formulate an exceptional economic plan without one smidgen of economic experience. I'm on the phone to my senator even now. Be looking for President Bush to announce the Peters/Stewart proposal later on this afternoon. We're saved!
