The doctor has been out of commission for a couple of days due to some health problems - well, mostly just one health problem - a mild heart attack. I debated and debated about whether or not to write anything about it until I realized exactly how fast news travels. It seems that everyone already knows so what could the harm be at this point??
He had his "episode" while attending Education Week at BYU last Wednesday. He was out of the hospital the next day, thanks in part, I am sure, to the fact that he asked for the most recent updates on his blood work elevations every ten minutes.
Anyway, against all odds, he is going back to seeing patients tomorrow - a mere week following this should-be-life-changing-event. He is too busy making jokes about kicking the bucket, living longer than all of us, and getting into heaven to notice.
We've planned a super fun day for his first day back. Forty-five patients. It will be the day from hell mostly because I'm sure he'll take an extra fifteen minutes with each patient to relate the story over and over INCLUDING the same hearth attack jokes he's been using continuously for the past three days. In the mean time, all of the patients he is NOT talking to will be griping to us about their wait time.
That alone is enough to cause me to develop some "health problems" where I can't make it to work for a few days - just long enough for all the hullabaloo to die down...

Have F-U-N tomorrow! I promise, I'll not join in!
I was so happy to hear that it was a mild heart attack ... the word through the grape vine said it was much worse. So, needless to say, I was so worried with wonder of what's going on? ... and what is he going to do? It was a relief when I saw him Tues evening! And we laughed about the news through the grape vine.
He's a wonderful person ... a rare doctor for these days, he loves and cares for his patients with true devotion and compassion.
And his IQ ... wow ... it's way up there! Yet, he's the most layed back, intellectuals I've ever known in my lifetime!
He and his dear wife are wonderful people. They mean so very much to me!
Now, Erin, have fun with all those 45 patients ... and when the fussing ones fuss ... laugh at them! If I were there ... I'd probably be rolling on the floor laughing! And you know why? Reason number 1: it's funny!
Reason number 2: fussing people need all the laughter they can possibly get!
And PLEASE keep reminding the doctor that he had a heart attack a week ago!
Man, no one can ever call in sick now. Once the boss comes back to work after a HEART ATTACK, everything else pales in comparison.
Glad he's okay though...
