Top Ten Reasons Why Ruby Valley is Better Than Beaumont

10. The mosquitoes, while annoying, actually look like bugs instead of large birds of prey.

9. All cars are left unlocked with the keys still in them - it would be the perfect place for thieves, but they would never think of going that far into the middle-of-nowhere to steal. The best thing about this is the fact that no one would ever have to break your car window.

8. Clean, clear, cold water instead of the warm, metallic tasting stuff that comes out of our apartment sink. No need for a Brita when you live in Ruby Valley!

7. Creeks (pronounced cricks) instead of garbage filled drainage ditches. Water coming off the mountain to flow basically right past your front door. They provide hours of entertainment and also a way to cool off on a hot day.

6. The ability to walk right down the middle of the road instead of having to dodge speeding cars due to the fact that there are no sidewalks.

5. Instead of the smell of rotten vegetables (compliments of the Evadale paper mill), you get the smell of freshly cut alfalfa or sagebrush. Delicious.

4. The Paul and The Judy. And the rest of the family, too. And the animals.

3. There is no shortage of places you can go to be ALL ALONE. This includes the fact that no cell phones get service in Ruby Valley and the internet is down 50% of the time.

2. Everybody knows your name.

1. Even when it's 90 degrees outside, it still feels 20 degrees cooler than 90 in Beaumont.

To be fair, I have to say that there are things about Beaumont that I missed while I was gone: my bed, good water pressure in the shower and while flushing the toilets, not having to use lotion, Nick, Nick, Nick, Nick, and Nick.

With five Nicks you'd think you'd be able to squeeze in one Holli. After all, I was bored senseless here!

And, you sold me on Ruby Valley. When can I move there? Will you take me with you next time?

I'll put you in there when I get my first plate of chocolate chip cookies made especially for me by you.

And, anytime you want to go to Nevada, give me a call...I'm willing to make a weekly trip.
