Since I moved to Beaumont back in December 2006, there has been this job at the college I've been salivating over. I've pulled it up to look at it every Monday for the past 18 months. I've applied six times and have never gotten so much as a call back. Apparently they are having a hard time finding ANYONE who is qualified, because it has been posted for two and a half years. The job title is Coordinator - Outdoor Actives and Rock Climbing Wall. I've dreamt of a job like this since I graduated from college in Recreation Management nine years ago.
After realizing that I'm probably not going to get the job (the SIXTH time of filling out the application was my first clue), I forwarded the job announcement to my good friend who has been rock climbing since she was in the womb. I figured that if they weren't going to hire me, they should hire her.
They flew her down from Utah last week, paid for the flight, meals, and a hotel room, and then gave her the royal treatment in a tour of the campus, etc.
According to her, the interview went well and even though it looks like they are going to offer her the job at the end of the week, she is more than likely going to turn it down based on the fact that she doesn't want to move to Beaumont. Ok, so fair play to her. I wouldn't want to move here unless I was forced to either.
But, it makes me sick to my stomach - here I am, living in Beaumont already with some experience to offer - even though my experience is completely different than hers. I've wanted it forever (approximately 85 views of the job description). If they hired me, I could actually make a decent living while also doing something I love! And, here they are, offering it to my friend on a silver platter and she is going to say no!
It makes me want to throw a tantrum, pounding my fists on the floor, screaming, "NOT FAIR, NOT FAIR, NOT FAIR!"
And yes, I am fully aware that life is never fair.

Aw. That sucks. But, I would keep filling out those applications. Eventually, they'll be forced to hire you - think job hunting Mussolini style.
