I will never understand why famous people can do whatever they want and either get away with it completely or get nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Take for instance, Pacman Jones. He is a professional football player who has recently been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Jones also just happens to have six arrests on his record in the last four years. One of them includes assault charges that led to a shooting in Las Vegas . Because of this, he was suspended for the 2007 season WITH PAY. My, my, my, what a harsh punishment.
I heard him on the radio saying that his past arrests and subsequent probations didn't matter because he had "ownded up to his mistakes". No, that's not a typo - he actually said that he OWNDED up.
I understand that the man is a very talented athlete. I understand that there are some privileges associated with being famous. But, is there anyway some of us NORMALS could sign up for that program? I mean, if I could hang on to my $7 million dollar a year contract while also being incarcerated, that would be great. And, if I could be reinstated, no questions asked when I was sprung from the pen, that would be even better. All I have to do to get fired is not show up for ONE day without calling in (and there goes my $19,000/year down the drain).
My final question is, how many chances should one famous person get? Three? Five? Ten? I vote none. Let them see what it's like to be one of us. Maybe then they would stop doing such dumb ass things.
