I've decided I'm going to start my own business. This is not because I have a passion for any one thing or a burning desire to be my own boss (even though that would be nice). I just want to have my own employees and therefore, a captive audience.
An example: The other day, right after doctor came back from lunch, he called both the receptionist and me into his office. Being that both of us were actually working (instead of me just playing on the Internet), we figured it had to be something important. Instead, we had to submissively sit for twenty-five minutes while he related a story about how he had almost just gotten in a wreck.
He was reinforcing his story with spittle flying from his mouth, big hand gestures. and loud giggling while Amy and I sat with that "oh-my-hell-you've-got-to-be-kidding!-did-you-actually-call-us-away-from-our-work-to-tell-us-this" look on our faces.
The point is, can you imagine having two people that you employ who are halfway forced to listen to your stories? It's not like either one of us was going to stop him and say, "I've heard this before" or "Doctor, I HAVE WORK TO DO!" No. We just listened and inserted the proper comments at the proper places (which isn't really all that necessary with him, since he could care less if we get a word in edgewise).
When he does it, it's annoying. However, when I do it to my own employees, I think it will be closer to a strike of genius. It will be almost like paying someone to be my friend.
