My First Turkey!

Today was our first Thanksgiving as a married couple.

It was also the first time in my life that I have EVER attempted to cook a Thanksgiving dinner by myself. We started out the morning by visiting Nick's mother at the hospital and then racing home to learn how to make a turkey. We ripped out all the innards, stuffed it with butter and sage (hence the large black spot on the frontal lobe. When the guy on TV made HIS turkey, it didn't look like that), and threw it in our tiny oven.

Now I know why lots of people get together for Thanksgiving. It's because there is no human way one person can make all the food themselves. Our kitchen is so tiny and our oven is even smaller. I have no idea how on earth I was supposed to make the turkey, the stuffing, and the sweet potato crumble (I've never eaten sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving, so this was a first for me) when I can only put them in one at a time!

Husband reacts to this delicious dinner - his first time for white bread stuffing! Of course, it wasn't really that great because I cooked the hell out of it. It pretty much tasted like rocks with butter on them (as we all know, butter makes everything better). I can't be blamed because the first and only other time that I made this stuffing was when I was in Japan and working with a "renji" or in other words, a microwave.

After being a good sport for a prolonged period of time, Husband finally had to put his foot down and say, "Erin, NO MORE PICTURES." Whatever. I don't think that he understands the enormity of this day. It should be well documented.

Next year buy one of those glad oven bags for your turkey...I swear by them. Then, have other people over who bring everything else. I mean, you made the turkey, right?? Oh, how's husband doing with the win over Texas? :)

Well, we would have had people over, but we don't seem to have any friends...or maybe it's just me that doesn't have any friends :)

And naturally, even though Husband had to wok yesterday, I was texting him real time updates of the game (I'm required to watch AND cheer for A&M when he is unable to do so. I do it without complaint because it's better for our marriage than making fun of them). Husband is not only thrilled with the win, he is thrilled with "The Fran" resigning. These Texas people are harsh when it comes to their football teams.

Great post Erin. I really enjoyed the pictures of you and Husband and the turkey. Oh how I miss turkey on Thanksgiving! Looks like you'll have lots of leftovers if it was just the 2 of you!

Yes we are hard on our coaches. This isn't BYU football where you pay some guy $100,000 a year and just hope they show up nest year. When you pay some one $2,000,000 a year her better win every damn game.

Oh! Husband! Hello! This is a first for sure.

What I want to know is, why on earth are college football coaches making $2 million a year? I wish my talents were as valued as the ability to move little men around a field. That's not to say that I don't love college football...I just want to make more money.
