Beauty Magazines Lie

I don't consider myself a girlie girl by any stretch of the imagination. However, there is one thing that I LOVE to do and that is to paint my fingernails. I don't know why. It might be because I'm trying to distract from my short, fat fingers, or it might be because I'm making up for lost time (I didn't start buying fingernail polish until I was 25...so, while all the other girls were putting on makeup, curling their hair, and painting stuff, I was busy doing other things. Those were such simple times...now instead of makeup and curling irons, most girls are opting for plastic surgery instead).

Anyway, I am always looking for great polish colors. And, the September "Simple Life" magazine (someone gave it to me, I didn't buy it) was a veritable smorgasbord of fingernail polish fun claiming that it had found "five great colors that look good on anyone".

Naturally, I could not resist (well, I kind of resisted...I didn't buy them for a month after I read the article), and scavenged the local stores for all of the fine colors - pinks, reds, and yes, a nice shade of "coral" (I know, I should have known better).

When I got home, I painted my toes and nails a nice shade of OPI "LaPaz-itivy Perfect" (I wish I had the job of naming fingernail polishes). I look like a Barbie doll. Husband came home and said, "You look like you put bubble gum on your fingers."

You have fantastic nails! Have you ever thought of becoming a hand model??

Yes, I think about it all the time (I also think about becoming a billionaire and trying to get on "The Amazing Race"). In fact, I'm currently seeking gainful employment in that area. Of course, I have just studied that picture of my hand and it appears that my middle finger is kind of crooked...maybe I use to too much.
