Bring It On, HUMBERTO!

Dear Hurricane Decider People -

It is in my opinion that you need to change the parameters by which you judge a hurricane/tropical storm/depression. I have just experienced my first category I hurricane and I have to say with no qualms whatsoever that I AM NOT IMPRESSED.

I mean, I slept through the entire "bad" part of the storm, and would have slept through the lighter part as well if Husband hadn't woken me up to tell me that the transformer behind our house blew out (causing a nice green flash) at 4 am (then again, I do sleep with ear plugs which don't muffle Husband's snoring all that much, but those hurricane force winds?? CAN'T HEAR A THING).

Granted, the power is out almost all over town EXCEPT AT WORK, which means that I have to work anyway, even though we didn't have any power at our house. STUPID HUMBERTO (which, for those of you who are not fluent in Spanish such as myself, is pronounced UMMMM-BEAR-TOE). If there is going to be a power outage, it had better cover the entire town. It is also of my opinion that when there is a hurricane of ANY strength, EVERYTHING should be closed.

So, needless to say, this hurricane did not live up to my expectations of high winds (they apparently did get up to 85-90 miles per hour) and LOTS of rain (I guess all of the flooding had receded by the time I left the house). The typhoons in Japan were worse than this!! However, I am very happy that Beaumont was able to get on the national news (http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=df7c1631-41f6-4704-8091-dcb702cbda32&f=00&fg=).

Naturally, all of the Texans that I have seen today can't talk about anything else but this GREAT BIG STORM. Please. Get back to me when something real comes up.

Sincerely,

Erin (the one who was NOT impressed)

PS I would just like to say that Husband told me that I would be upset either way - because if our house had been blown away, I would be mad as well. I have to say that he is 100% correct, but please don't tell him I said that.

PPS One of the ladies I work with did get a tree limb through the back window of her car and another lady that I work with has a tree sitting on top of her house.

PPSS Just as a side note to the power company, I fully expect my power to be back on by the time I get home or I will be very cranky in my air condition-less house with rotting food from the fridge and freezer.

PPPPPPPSSSSSSS Here's the link if you want to check it out. My favorite is the man who says, "The rain's not even comin' straight down. It's goin' THAT way." He's awesome. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid823425597/bclid877032950/bctid1184457299
