I've been trying to make friends here in Texas. There are so many young, married couples at church, but for the most part, they grew up here, have family here, have friends here, and therefore, really have no need/are not as desperate as I am to start a new group of friends. It's been a struggle for me and for my husband since he is forced to meet every need that I have...according to marriage therapists, this is not a good thing.
So, this past Sunday when a girl who also works in the baby class at church asked if Husband and I could go to dinner, I was SOOOO excited. This girl and her husband were just married a month ago. They are both young and when I say "young", I mean "YOUNG". The girl is just barely 19-years-old, making me nearly 10 years her senior. TEN YEARS. What I'm saying is that she graduated from HIGH SCHOOL last year. I had been graduated from COLLEGE for three years before she even STARTED high school.
Anyway, we went out on Monday night and then went back to their house where all of them wanted to play Nintendo "007". I spent the entire time struggling with the controller and getting shot in the back by the other participants because I never could figure out how to get a gun to shoot. I was forced to yell, "DON'T SHOOT ME! I DON'T EVEN HAVE A GUN!" about every three minutes.
When everyone had had enough of shooting me, it was past 9:30 and I wanted to go home and go to bed because I am apparently VERY OLD. Instead, they wanted to play a board game. A BOARD GAME?? Do you not understand that it is very nearly my bed time??
Being out voted, we played the game (which I won handily, I might add), and two and a half hour later, we finally got to go home.
Don't get me wrong, I had a good time. I think that I could actually be friends with this girl. But come on! I am nearing 29-years-old and I have a VERY strict bed time.
