The doctor is out of town for the next three days. Instead of just letting us put the phones on the answering service and be out of the office ourselves, he has issued an edict that we are to work Thursday and Friday from 9-4. So, there are three of us here. The other two ladies have this amazing talent of looking busy even when they aren't. I have no idea what they do all day long. I finished all of the work that he gave me hours ago and have spent the rest of my time reading about "Lost" and "American Idol". I've also picked up a bunch of other work from the other ladies. I'm not sure if they are busier than me or what but yesterday I had to type letters, do referrals, and file papers - NONE of which is in my job description (and also, the doctor had given it to THEM, NOT me). Perhaps I am just the most outstanding employee in that I actually get my work done right as soon as he gives it to me.
Today, part of my job was to go down to the post office to mail a money order to the doctor's nephew, who, naturally, is in jail on drug charges. I don't know what it is about the post office, but it is equally busy on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon...and every other time for that matter. I had to wait in line for an hour while three ladies (who didn't know each other before being confined to the line) talked loudly about all of the surgeries they've had. I would have been upset about having to wait that long under any other circumstance, but since this time, waiting in the post office got me out of sitting at my desk trying madly to think of something to do, I was more than happy to do it.
The real question is, what else can I do that I can't usually do when the doctor is in the office? I've already turned on the radio stream on my computer and tuned it to the country station. Of course, I have to turn it up pretty loud to be able to hear it over the old lady music that the receptionist has on in the waiting room (yes, all the ladies I work with are 47 or older...that's like halfway to being dead, and they ACT like it). I also wore shorts to work today since we have no patients.
Tomorrow I think I'll work on posters that I'm supposed to be making for the church emergency preparedness fair...I can't understand why they keep asking me to do all of these things that use NONE of my talents whatsoever.

You can watch You Tube. That's an AWESOME time-wasting activity if you have a computer at work.
