I'm sorry, but the doctor that I work for is ruining my chances at having a Japanese friend. I found out just the other day that indeed, there is at least one Japanese person in Beaumont. She is the wife of a doctor that my doctor is friends with.
The doctor said that nearly every week, the Japanese woman takes people out to dinner at the local Japanese steak house, Tokyo. Apparently she always invites the doctor and his wife but they can't ever go.
Two days ago, she called to invite the doctor and his wife to eat yet again and said, "And you come, too!!" The doctor had apparently told her husband that I had lived in Japan.
We spoke Japanese on the phone. I believe we had a moment. I was SOOOO excited.
However, after discussing with the doctor and his wife, I found out they can't go AGAIN this week. And, if they can't go, neither can I since I've never actually met the woman. It would be so rude to just show up and say, "Well, here I am! I know you don't know me, but I need a Japanese friend so bad because my Japanese is going to pot and you're the only candidate!"
I'm worried that if the doctor and his wife can never go, the Japanese lady will forget about me and not invite me again. I'm currently trying to think of ways to meet her and make her love me without her having to buy me dinner. Then, I can go with her any time I want (and I'm seriously not in it for the free food, I'm in it for the Japanese friend).
The problem is that short of stalking her, I have no idea how I'm going to accomplish it.

Your doctor obviously doesn't understand the importance of your having a Japanese friend, or he would cancel whatever his other plans were so he could make sure you meet this woman. Perhaps you could find some way of communicating to your doc that you NEED a Japanese friend or you might do something crazy, like send one of his patients to get a scan WITH barium contrast.
I already tried to make him feel guilty and he was having none of it. I guess you are right...the next step is to threaten him.
Threats are ALWAYS the way to go, if you ask me.
