After all of the things that Rev. Al Sharpton has been involved in over the last month, he should really learn to check how his comments might be construed before he lets them out of his over productive mouth.
Here is the comment that he made about Mitt Romney, a Mormon and a candidate for President of the United States: "As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation," Sharpton said.
He quickly backtracked the next day with this comment: "What I said was that we would defeat him, meaning as a Republican," Sharpton said. "A Mormon, by definition, believes in God. They don't believe in God the way I do, but by definition, they believe in God."
Regardless of how he meant it to sound or what he thought he had projected through his speech, his comments appear to be bigoted. Come on, Mr. Sharpton! You've been on a rampage about speech in America and how we all need to be more sympathetic/understanding about each other's beliefs, races, and situations. You've spoken countless times in the last month about how improper speech/comments degrade and demean. I assume that you weren't just talking about comments that demean and degrade you?? You were talking about the greater good, were you not??
And, as far as your comment about Mormons not believing in God the way that you do, you are probably correct. While we believe in the same God (we preach the same bible you do, Mr. Sharpton), I'm sure that Mormons and non-Mormons alike don't believe in God exactly the same way you do. We find different qualities in God as we need them, as we go about our daily challenges. We come to believe in God in different ways. We find different ways that we can become like him and ways in which we already are.
All I'm asking, Mr. Sharpton, is that as long as you are on a super public platform talking about how everyone should be careful in their speech (especially on-air), make sure that the comments you make do not mirror the very thing that you are fighting so vehemently against.

Religious belief differences aside, I have always found Mormoms to be very nice, ethical, and moral people. I don't know much about Mitt Romney's political platform, but I am curiously interested in supporting him for president.
I don't know much about Mitt either, to tell you the truth. I'm not sure if I'll end up voting for him. I mean, he seems like a nice guy but who knows if he'll be a good President??
AMEN TO THAT!
