I'm Still Alive

Yes, Adventures blog fans, I am still alive....barely. I've been living with husband in Southeast Texas for a little over a month now and while I love to be where he is, I'm struggling with the landscape. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the fact that I have neighbors living just two feet away from me, the fact that my usual respite of a drive in the mountains is not an option, and the fact that being a wife means more cooking and cleaning then I ever thought possible (although husband did empty the dishwasher the other day, helped me with dinner on Sunday, and is completely understanding when I get home from work and am too tired to cook....meaning almost every other day).

I did find a job. A nice doctor at church offered me a position at his office as a bookkeeper. It's dealing with a lot of numbers and remembering small details, two things that I've never been very good at. The office is devoid of windows, greenery, and up until yesterday, air conditioning (and yes, we are using air conditioning even in February). Most of his patients are geriatric. Unlike my last office, it is NOT lively and most days, I feel like I'm suffocating. However, it's a little bit of money until I find something that I really want to do.

And speaking of finding that, I had an interview the other day in the nursing department at the local university (to be a student advisor). I was interviewed by three super A Type personality women. I thought the interview went well since I was in there for almost an hour.

Of course, then came the time to show off my computer skills. Being that I haven't had a job where I've really had to use a computer EVER, I bombed it. While I am an ace at Microsoft Word, I'd forgotten all of the Excel function codes and had never even heard of Access (if anyone can give me a tutorial, I would appreciate it). They gave me several files to create in each program. I spent about an hour messing with Access and finally had to give up because I was going to be late back to work. I don't think they were very impressed with my "try", as I shoved the disc at them and mumbled something about having to leave.

Today I've got another interview at the local radio station as a receptionist. We'll see how it goes. I'm not getting my hopes too high because I don't think that I really fit the mold. The girl that currently works there has fake hair, boobs, fake teeth, and drives a BMW. I, on the other hand, am slightly chubby, short, and drive a mouse infested, VERY smelly Geo Prism. Well, after all, the radio station IS a country station. They should hire someone who represents the country...like me and my animal friendly car.
