I Hope You Were Able to Celebrate
I hope that all of you were able to celebrate the holiday yesterday. Yes, that's right. August 14th is officially recognized as "National Navajo Code Talkers Day". The Indians here, despite the fact that they are NOT Navajo, held a "sun dance". I don't exactly know what that means but I DO know that the Indians that work here fixing fence sometimes, Claude and Jonathan, did not attend. Claude (who was recenlty released from jail) said that he couldn't go because there was entirely "too much fasting", which included 24 hours without alcohol. Can you believe that? And they have the nerve to call it a holiday...

That's pretty interesting that they have a holiday for the Navajo code talkers...even though they're not Navajo! Growing up near the Navajo reservation in Arizona, I can tell you first hand they are still very proud of the contribution those Navajo made to the war effort and every chance they get, the old code talkers wear their regalia and service patches. My alma mater, Northern Arizona University, even has a statue or two on the campus devoted to the code talkers. I guess other tribes try to ride their coat tails eh?
